rtm_logo_largeMason Transit Authority (MTA) is encouraging the community to celebrate with them and join Transportation Choices’ second annual Ride Transit Month!  Ride Transit Month is a month long celebration of transit riders, whether you ride a bus, train, light rail, ferry, water taxi, or van pool. It’s also a chance to win prizes.

Ride Transit Month is from April 1 to April 30, 2016 and anyone can participate. If you are curious about trying transit or are a seasoned rider, MTA challenges you, your co-workers, family and friends to ride transit. You can register online to keep track of your trips to work, school, the museum, shopping, and everywhere in between. As you log trips each day with Ride Transit Month you’ll be eligible for prizes just for riding.

MTA offers local and regional routes, a general public door-to-door service called Dial-A-Ride, as well as commuter programs. In November of 2015, they implemented Express Service for commuters traveling between Olympia, Shelton, Belfair, or Bremerton. MTA offers free travel training to groups or individuals that have never used transit or just want to learn more.

Christina Fremont, MTA Outreach Manager, said, “We appreciate Transportation Choices for creating this neat promotional program that encourages people to ride transit and win prizes for doing so. We think it is a great way to celebrate Earth Day, which is on April 22, all month long!”

Transportation Choices is a statewide policy and advocacy nonprofit organization working to bring Washingtonians more opportunities to take a bus, catch a train, walk and bike. According to their website they “work to bring together different interests from across the state to work toward a common goal – more transportation choices that get you where you need to go.”
