DOT sealThe following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjoining areas from July 24, 2016 to July 30, 2016.

CONSTRUCTION

SR 108, Little Skookum Creek – Remove Fish Barrier project
TIME/DAYS: See below:
DESCRIPTION: Crews will remove and replace a culvert beneath SR 108 near US 101 in Kamilche.
LOCATION: Both directions from milepost 11.8 to 11.9 at West Kamilche Lane.
EXPECT:

  • SR 108 near US 101: 6 p.m. Thursday, July 21 to 9 a.m. Friday, July 22 – Drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic on SR 108 from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. following morning.
  • West Kamilche Lane near SR 108 has closed to all traffic through summer.
  • Speed limit reduced to 25 mph throughout project duration.

SR 3 – Belfair Area – Widening and Safety Improvements
TIME/DAYS: 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night Monday through Friday.
DESCRIPTION: This widening project will extend the center turn lane and provide paved shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of SR 3. The improvements are intended to be built in two separate stages.
LOCATION: Both directions of SR 3 from milepost 25.3 to 27.
EXPECT: Drivers will notice lanes realigned on a temporarily-widened portion of the highway near Romance Hill. The changes will allow crews to replace a culvert under the highway. Subsequent lane shifts will be needed as the work progresses. In addition, drivers can expect one-lane alternating traffic with flaggers during weeknight overnight hours listed above.

SR 3 and SR 310/N of Cokelet Ln to SR 303 and SR 3 to Weslon Pl – Paving
TIME/DAYS: each Monday through Friday through September.
SR 3 hours are from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.; SR 3 multi-lane section are from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.; SR 310 are from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
DESCRIPTION: Asphalt preservation.
LOCATION:

  • SR 3 from milepost 26.9 to 30.5 (near Belfair McDonalds to Bremerton National Airport).
  • SR 3 from between milepost 32.1 and 34.3 (Gorst Creek and Sam Christopherson Avenue West).
  • SR 3 from milepost 36.8 to 46.1, Silverdale to Bremerton (selected segments).
  • SR 310 from milepost 0 and .26, just west of Auto Center Way and near Weslon Place.

EXPECT: Single and double lane closures where necessary during overnight hours. Work is expected to begin in the Belfair area and work north.

US 101, Skookum Crk Bridge to Deschutes Parkway – Paving
TIME/DAYS: 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
DESCRIPTION: Asphalt preservation.
LOCATION: US 101 between Kamilche and Tumwater.
EXPECT: Occasional lane and shoulder closures.

MAINTENANCE

US 101, Skokomish Indian Tribe to Potlatch State Park.
TIME/DAYS: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each Monday through Friday through July 29.
DESCRIPTION: Crews will install sewer infrastructure.
LOCATION: Both directions in areas from milepost 335 to 336.
EXPECT: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers.

SR 3, Mason/Kitsap County line
TIME/DAYS: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 25-29.
DESCRIPTION: Utilities crews will install infrastructure.
LOCATION: Both directions from milepost 28.25 to 32.5 from Mason/Kitsap County line to Sunnyslope Road Southwest.
EXPECT: Shoulder closures.

CONSTRUCTION

SR 302, Purdy
TIME/DAYS: Monday & Tuesday, July 25-26. See specifics below.
DESCRIPTION: Crews will repair the asphalt and bridge joints.
LOCATION: Both directions at Purdy Spit.
EXPECT: Drivers who use the State Route 302 bridge over Purdy Spit will encounter two total night closures of the bridge.

  • 9 p.m. Monday, July 25, to 4 a.m. Tuesday July 26
  • 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, July 27

During the night closures, drivers will follow a 3-mile signed detour that uses 94th Avenue Northwest, Southeast Pine Road, and Bethel Burley Road Southeast.

SR 8 & SR 107/McCleary & Montesano Vic. – Paving
TIME/DAYS: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.
DESCRIPTION: Install new asphalt, pavement markings and make pavement repairs.
LOCATION: Both directions of SR 8 between McCleary and Summit Lake, and both directions of SR 107 south of Montesano from the Chehalis River Bridge to the Slough River Bridge.
EXPECT: See schedules below…

  • On SR 8, from Monday through Friday, July 25-29 – Single-lane closures on westbound State Route 8 from milepost 5.8 to 7 in McCleary. Speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph in the work zone.
  • On SR 107, from Monday, July 25 –  One-way alternating traffic with flaggers from milepost 7. to 7.8. Speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph in the work zone.

US 12, US 101 & US 12 Grays Harbor County Chip Seal, Oakville
TIME/DAYS: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each weekday.
DESCRIPTION: Crews will conduct an asphalt preservation project on US 101 from milepost 73.6 to milepost 77.1 from SR 107 to Lund Road and US 12 from milepost 34.5 to milepost 36.7 through the town of Oakville.
LOCATION: Both directions from milepost 34.5 to 36.7 in Oakville.
EXPECT: One-way alternating traffic in areas throughout the project limits.

MAINTENANCE

SR 8, Elma to US 101
TIME/DAYS: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, July 25-26.
DESCRIPTION: Vegetation management.
LOCATION: Both directions from milepost 0 to 20.6.
EXPECT: Right lane and shoulder closures for mobile operation.

Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

  • Pay attention – Driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.
  • Leave room between you and the car ahead of you – Most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively – be aware of what is happening around you.
  • Merge before you reach the work zone.
  • Don’t use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.
