More Primary Election Ballots were counted Wednesday. The notable changes in the numbers show a change in the leader for Mason County Commissioner District 2 and the incumbent for Mason County PUD No. 1 Commissioner trails the leader by a vote.
In the race for Mason County Commissioner District 2 – the seat currently held by Tim Sheldon who is not seeking re-election – the top two candidates remain the same but Republican Kevin Shutty has taken the lead from Democrat Roslynne Reed. Shutty now has 1,622 votes (41.73%) while Reed now has 1,581 votes (40.67%). That’s a lead of 41 votes for Shutty. After the initial count, Reed had an eight-vote lead. The third candidate in the race, Independent Steve Bloomfield, now has 684 votes (17.6%).
For Mason County Commissioner District 1, incumbent Randy Neatherlin has increased his lead on challenger Kelley McIntosh. Neatherlin now has 2,204 votes (53.37%) to McIntosh’s 1,926 votes (46.63%).
In the race for Mason County PUD No. 1 Commissioner District 1, challenger Mike Sheetz’s lead over incumbent Karl Denison is now one vote. The latest unofficial numbers show Sheet with 114 votes (42.07%) to Denison’s 113 votes (41.7%). The third candidate, J. Michael Read, now has 44 votes (16.24%).
The City of Shelton’s Emergency Medical Services Levy is still passing now with a 65.34% approval rate. That’s 867 voting “Yes” and 460 voting “No” to renew the EMS Levy at 50 cents per thousand of assessed value.
In Mason County Fire District 11, their EMS Levy is still passing now with 76.4% approval. That’s 327 voting “Yes” and 101 voting “No” to renew the levy for those in the Island Lake area at 50 cents per thousand.
And Mason County Fire District 17’s EMS Levy is passing with 81.43% approval. That’s 114 voting “Yes” and 26 voting “No” for that 25 cents per thousand levy.
Election officials in the Mason County Auditor’s Office still have 2,000 ballots to count and will release updated numbers after 4 PM tomorrow (Thursday, August 4th).
The incumbents in the 35th Legislative District have increased their leads.
Republican Dan Griffey now has 54.42% of the vote (11,954 votes) to Democrat Irene Bowling’s 45.58% (10,013 votes) in the race for State Representative Position 1.
Republican Drew MacEwen now has 53.92% (11,645 votes) to Democrat Craig Patti’s 46.08% (9,950 votes) in the race for State Representative Position 2.
In the 6th Congressional District, the top two candidates for U.S. Representative maintained their leads. Incumbent Democrat Derek Kilmer now has 58.44% of the vote and Republican Todd A. Bloom now has 23.95% of the vote.
The top two candidates in the 10th Congressional District also maintained their leads for U.S. Representative. Incumbent Democrat Denny Heck now has 46.94% of the vote and Republican Jim Postma now has 36.97% of the vote.
The top two candidates for U.S. Senator are still incumbent Democrat Patty Murray now with 53.86% of the vote and Republican Chris Vance with 27.59% of the vote.
In the Governor’s race, incumbent Democrat Jay Inslee (49%) and Republican Bill Bryant (38.02%) continue their dominance among the 11 candidates.
Still a close race for Lt. Governor among 11 candidates. However, the leader is now Democrat Cyrus Habib (20.32%; 165,293 votes) followed by Republican Marty McClendon (20.04%; 163,007 votes) then Democrat Karen Fraser (16.13%; 131,234 votes) and Democrat Steve Hobbs seems to be closing the gap(15.59%; 126,843 votes).
The top two candidates for Secretary of State remain incumbent Republican Kim Wyman (48.22%) and Democrat Tina Podlodowski (46.05%)
The top two candidates for State Treasurer are still Republicans Duane Davidson (25.42%) and Michael Waite (23.43%).
The top two candidates for State Auditor are still Republican Mark Miloscia (37.13%) and Democrat Pat (Patrice) McCarthy (30.43%).
In the race for Attorney General, incumbent Democrat Bob Ferguson has increased his substantial lead on Libertarian Joshua B. Trumbull 73.04% to 26.96%.
The top two candidates for Commissioner of Public Lands are still Republican Steve McLaughlin (38.74%) and Democrat Hilary Franz (21.32%).
The top two candidates for Superintendent of Public Instruction are still Erin Jones (23.6%) and Chris Reydal (20.51%).
The top two candidate for Insurance Commissioner are incumbent Democrat Mike Kreidler (58.05%) and Republican Richard Schrock (34.89%).
And the top two candidates for Supreme Court Justice Position 5 are still incumbent Barbara Madson (64.38%) and Greg Zempel (29.17%).
The turnout for this election statewide has increased to 21.88% while Mason County’s turnout is now 33.79%. There are over 345,000 ballots left to be counted statewide.
