The Mason County PUD 3 Commission unanimously approved the sale of the utility’s former administration building in downtown Shelton to the Thurston Mason Behavior Health Organization (BHO). Monday night’s action came after a public hearing on the sale in order for the establishment of a Involuntary Triage Facility for the mentally ill. During the hearing a dozen people spoke with most voicing support of locating the facility in the building at 307 West Cota.
Action followed an executive session on the sale for $275,000.
The building has been appraised at $550,000 and the BHO offered $250,000. The PUD countered with $300,000 and then accepted their $275,000 counter offer. Funding for the purchase will come from Mason County’s Sales and Use Tax for chemical dependency or Mental health services.
Renovations on the building are expected to begin next year.
