The Shelton boys’ basketball team couldn’t keep up with Tumwater Thursday night in the North Thurston Holiday Tournament. The Highclimbers dropped their second game in a row falling to the T-Birds 64 to 52 in a game broadcast on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

Shelton did have an early five-point lead but Tumwater held the ‘Climbers scoreless for the first five minutes of the second quarter (holding them to only 6 points in the quarter) to take a 28 to 17 lead at the half.

The ‘Birds took control of the game early in the 3rd quarter building an 18-point lead. Shelton responded and pulled to within 5 points,. The Highclimbers were down seven  (47-40) heading into the 4th but were unable to finish the comeback and Tumwater pulled away.

The T-Birds’ Brian Marty led all scorers with 29 points. Cade Otton added 10 points. And CJ Geathers chipped in 9.

Shelton was led in the loss by Caeleb Hitsman’s 14 points – all from the free throw line – hitting 14 of 18 attempts. Tyler Giraldes added 13 points. Jason Kenyon chipped in 7 points. Kyle Kimball and Marshall McCullough had 6 points each. And Travis Colbenson and Noah Benson each hit a three.

The Highclimbers dropped under 500 at 4-and-5 on the season. Shelton returns to the Mini Dome on Wednesday to face Peninsula. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast the game live.
