A 911 outage affecting Comcast voice over internet protocol (VoIP) customers was  reported in 16 Western Washington counties including Mason County. According to the state Emergency Management Division, the outage started just after 3 PM Friday and has since been fixed.

Other affected counties include Pierce, King, Thurston, Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Island, Kitsap, Lewis, Pacific, Skagit, Spokane, Stevens and Whatcom. Comcast reported the intermittent outage extended to Oregon.

The cause of the outage hasn’t been determined and only effected VoIP customers who use internet-based calling. Landlines and cellular phones were not impacted.

Officials asked people NOT to call 911 to see if it works. Every 911 center has  non-emergency numbers. MACECOM’s non-emergency numbers are 360-426-4441 or 360-426-4442.
