The City of Shelton changed the traffic signal operations at the intersection of 4th Street and Railroad Avenue. The traffic signal is now flashing yellow for vehicles traveling east and west along Railroad Avenue, while flashing red for vehicles traveling north and south along 4th Street. The traffic signal change also resulted in the pedestrian crosswalk heads being disabled at the intersection.
According to Public Works Director, Craig Gregory, this change is necessitated by an aging signal cabinet at the intersection that has surpassed its serviceable life.
City crews will be collecting data at the intersection to determine the best option for the signals replacement. The Downtown Visioning Plan has a round-about at that intersection.
The city reminds everyone:
• a flashing red signal requires drivers to make a complete stop before proceeding
• a flashing yellow signal allows drivers to proceed cautiously through the intersection without stopping.
