Following a week of simulation with the aging traffic signal at 4th and Railroad, the City of Shelton has determined a path forward.
Beginning Friday, March 10, 2017:
- Stop signs will be installed on 4th, in both directions.
- The 4th and Railroad traffic signal will be removed, enabling vehicles to proceed through on Railroad, and requiring a stop in either direction on 4th. This setup will create a two-way stop, which is the same type of intersection throughout most of Railroad at 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 9th.
- Crosswalk rapid flashers have been ordered, and will be installed as soon as they arrive. A current rapid flasher exists at 6th and Railroad for reference.
- Parking spaces creating visibility issues will be addressed.
Until March 10th, the traffic signal will remain flashing. As a reminder:
- flashing red = make a complete stop before proceeding
- flashing yellow = proceed cautiously through the intersection without stopping
