The City of Shelton is settling the lawsuit over the C Street Landfill. The complaint was filed in December of 2016 by Waste Action Project (WAP). WAP alleged the dump south of West C Street and west of U.S. Highway 101 violated the Solid Waste Disposal Act.
Under the settlement, the Shelton City Commission will need to sign a Consent Decree, pay $5,000 toward funding an environmental project being completed by Mason Conservation District, and pay $60,000 to WAP for attorney fees and litigation expenses.
The Consent Decree states that the settlement is “in the best interest of the parties and the public, and that the Consent Decree is “the most appropriate means of resolving this matter.”
The Shelton City Commission will take action on the settlement next Monday.
