Fire officials have updated the map for the Maple Fire, the wildfire burning in the Olympic National Forest near Hamma Hamma.

The fire is now 1,245 acres in size and is 35% contained. Authorities said Friday they will let Mother Nature fully contain the blaze.

Firefighters will work to cut down hazard trees along Forest Road 2401 and Jefferson Creek. Crews will continue extinguishing burning vegetation along established firelines and monitor fire progression elsewhere.

Moderate fire behavior is expected due to recent lower temperatures and higher humidity. However, temperatures are starting to increase and so will fire activity. Smokey conditions will continue.

The fire is burning in heavy timber on steep slopes five miles west of U.S. Highway 101. The blaze was first reported about 11 AM August 4th. The cause remains under investigation but it is believed to be human caused.
