A sex offender recently released from custody is living as a transient in the Shelton area. According to a sex offender information bulletin, 26-year-old Robert Eugene VanderVort has registered with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office as a transient/homeless sex offender. VanderVort is required to register as a sex offender due to pleading guilty to Indecent Liberties without Forcible Compulsion in 2005. He was charged with Rape of a Charge for having sexual intercourse with a 5 or 6 year-old girl but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge, saying the rape never occurred. VanderVort also has a criminal history to include burglary, theft and assault and has been assessed as a level 2 sex offender. However, due to his homeless status, the Sheriff’s Office has raised that assessment to level 3 – the highest level – and considers Robert VanderVort at a high risk to re-offend. Robert Eugene VanderVort is a white male, 5-foot-8, 223 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. And again, he has registered his status with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office as a transient/homeless sex offender.
