Fire crews contained a wildfire near milepost 6 on Bear Creek-Dewatto Road Monday. The fire was first reported in the afternoon and started as five separate blazes. The fire created a column of smoke that could be seen from Lilliwaup to Panther Lake.

Crews from multiple fire districts responded including North Mason Fire Authority, Central Mason Fire & EMS, Mason County Fire District 3, and Mason County Fire District 6 along with the Department of Natural Resources.

The fire was turned over to the DNR around 6 PM and reported as contained by 10 PM. The size of the fire was listed at over 25 acres.

Several agencies are organizing a Fire Prevention and Community Awareness meeting on June 25th at three locations in Mason County: Shelton, Belfair and Lake Cushman.

Everyone is invited to attend and learn about “Ready, Set Go” evacuation preparedness, animal/pet safety and more. The meetings will start at 5:30 at the Shelton Civic Center, the North Mason School District Boardroom and the Lake Cushman Fire Hall.

All three community meetings will be streamed live. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will be providing the video stream for the Belfair meeting.
