MMK Football Drops Opener
[VIDEOS] The Mary M. Knight football team dropped its 2019 season opener Saturday, falling to Quilcene 58 to 24. The Owls only had nine players available for the game and only eight played in the second half due to an injury to Isaiah Compton near the end of the first half.
Compton did score MMK’s first touchdown in the first quarter but the Owls were unable to keep up with the Rangers’ much deeper roster (with 25 players active).
Quilcene players took advantage of their fresh legs to bust big plays including a 99-yard TD run by Bishop Budnek.
Along with Compton’s catch and run for a TD, another first half bright spot for the boys from Matlock was Eddy Krippelcz’s quarterback keeper, scoring MMK’s second TD from about 45 yards out.
The Rangers increased their lead in the third quarter to 52 to 12.
In the fourth, Owls sophomore Quinnton Krippelcz, who stepped in for the injured Compton, caught a TD pass from his older brother Eddy, running 50 yards for the score.
Quinnton and Eddy switch positions later in the quarter and the younger Krippelcz threw a pass to the older Krippelcz who found the end zone.
After the game, MasonWebTV Powered by HCC talked with Coach Tom Kerr.
As Coach Kerr mentioned, Eddy Krippelcz passed for 284 yards. The extent of Compton’s injury was not known at the time of the interview although the said before the interview the junior wide receiver and linebacker was experiencing tenderness in his hip.
Mary M. Knight hosts Evergreen Lutheran next Saturday at 1 PM.
