Football: MMK Falls in Pigtail Game
The Mary M. Knight football team’s season came to an end Wednesday night in a Class 1B Pigtail Playoff game at Montesano High School where the Owls fell to Darrington 68 to 28.
The boys from Matlock struck first taking the game’s opening drive 53 yards on seven plays with Quinnton Krippelcz finding the end zone on a 26-yard run.
The Loggers got on the board on their second possession, going 34 yards in three plays with Lucas Reuwsaat running it in from 23 yards out.
Darrington then started to pick up momentum after recovering a MMK fumble and going 44 yards in six plays with Reuwsaat getting another TD and the Loggers took the lead 16 to 8.
Mary M. Knight responded with a three-play, 47-yard drive that was capped by Krippelcz second touchdown but the two-point conversion failed.
Darrington had a 16-14 lead and took their next possession 66 yards in three plays with Logger quarterback Richard Zinnatto throwing a 7-yard TD pass to Nik Requa, making the score 24 to 14.
Darrington then took advantage of the Owls’ second turnover with Reuwsaat scoring on 12-yard run that ended a 10-play, 55-yard drive. Loggers increased their lead to 30 to 14.
MMK responded with a 55-yard, six-play drive in which Zander Pogue scored on a 2-yard pass from Krippelcz. Darrington up 30 to 20.
The Loggers responded again with Reuwsaat finding the end zone for the fourth time in the half and the teams headed to the locker room with Darrington leading 38 to 20.
The second half belong to the Loggers who scored on four of their six possession. Those Darrington highlights including taking their 3rd quarter opening drive 55 yards for the score, recovering the ensuing kickoff and scoring, recovering another fumble, and scoring off an interception.
The Owls did take advantage of a Logger fumble. MMK went 90 yards on five plays with Dylan Ralph taking a Krippelcz pass 69 yard for the boys from Matlock’s only score in the second half.
Mary M. Knight finishes the season 2-and-6. Darrington picked up its third win and plays at Evergreen Lutheran Saturday in the Class 1B Quad District Playoffs.
