Mason County and Western Washington will see at least one more day of poor air quality Sunday. The picture below was pulled from Hood Canal Communications’ Canal Camera and compares today (Sept. 13, 2020) to March of this year.

Southwesterly winds will continue to bring smoke off the Washington coast (from fires in Oregon) into the area today and Monday. Air quality will be Unhealthy, Very Unhealthy, and Hazardous across most of Western Washington through at least Monday.

The Air Quality Alert from the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency, the Northwest Clean Air Agency, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and the Southwest Clean Air Agency remains in effect until 11 AM Monday.

Forecasters say there is an improving trend as a weather system approaches the area.

Very Unhealthy to Hazardous air quality means everyone should stay indoors. Avoid all strenuous activity. Close windows and doors if it`s not too hot, set your AC to recirculate, and use HEPA air filter if possible. People with heart or lung disease, or those who have had a stroke, should consult their health care provider about leaving the area and wearing a properly-fitted respiratory mask if they must go outdoors. Follow burn bans and evacuation orders.
