In boys’ golf:

Shelton 75, Gig Harbor 78. The Highclimbers’ Zach Lund was medalist shooting a two under par 74 at Lake Limerick.

North Mason 445; Klahowya 511. The Eagles’ Logan Schnuit was medalist shooting a 78 at Gold Mountain.

 

In girls’ golf:

Shelton 63, Gig Harbor 102. The Tides’ Christie Drumm was the medalist and shot a 44.

North Mason 306, at Klahowya 309. The Eagles’ Sally Fletcher was the medalist with a 46.

 

Another late game error did in the North Mason baseball team as the Bulldogs lost to Sequim 6 to 5 Thursday in nine innings. The boys from Belair scored four runs in the seventh inning to force extra innings. Chase Schoonhoven tied the game with a two-out, two-run double. But the error in the bottom of the ninth allowed the Wolves’ Tyler Forshaw to score the winning run from second base. Other North Mason players to bat in runs were Jordan Young and Riley McKean. The Bulldogs drop to 2-and-9 on the season. They host Olympic today (Fri. April 13th).

 

The North Mason and Port Angeles boys’ soccer teams played to a 0-0 tied Thursday night at Phil Pugh Stadium. The Bulldogs are now 3-3-and-2 on the season. The boys from Belfair travel to Silverdale Stadium Tuesday night to take on Klahowya.

 

The Mary M. Knight track teams participated in a 12-team meet in Naselle Thursday. As teams, the Lady Owls finished 10th while the boys from Matlock were 12th. Top MMK performers were Nick Dierkop who was third in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 110 hurdles; Hannah Frost placed third in the 400, third in the 800 and sixth in the discus; and the girls’ relay team of Kiah Lofgren, Carlie Adsero, Laurn Dierkop and Melody Snyder finished fourth in the 4 x 200. The Owls’ next meet is Thursday at River Ridge High School.

 

Capital baseball coach to pursue opportunity

Capital High School baseball coach Eric Stark will step down as coach of the Cougars following this season. Stark has accepted a full-time position at the Southridge Sports and Events Complex in Kennewick, a multi-sport complex that that opened last month. This was Stark’s first head coaching job at the high school level. Prior to that, he was a freshman coach for one season at West Albany (Ore.) High School, then spent three years at Eastern Oregon University as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator. He was a four-year starting center fielder at Oregon State from 1998-2001. Stark has been a campus advocate at New Market Skills Center in Tumwater the past two years. Since being hired at Capital in 2007, the Cougars were 75-and-36 with three state appearances.
