Candidate filing week wrapped up Friday and 64 people filed for 52 offices up for election this fall. Three people filed for Shelton City Council Member No. 7 and for Pioneer School Board Position No. 3 meaning there will be primary elections for those races.

Election officials in the Mason County Auditor’s office also set the order names will appear on the ballot.

The three people to file for Shelton City Council Member No. 7 are Trenton Powers, George W. Blush and Miguel Gutierrez. The seat is currently held by Megan Fiess who was appointed to the position (originally held by Bob Rogers) in January 2019.

In the race for Shelton City Council Member No. 6, incumbent Joe Schmit is being challenged by Tyler W. “Mad Dog” Elliott.

Shelton City Council Member No. 4 incumbent Eric Onisko is running unopposed.

And Sharon Schirman filed for Shelton City Council Member No. 3, the seat currently held by Kevin Dorcy who did not file for re-election.

In Public Hospital District 1 (the governing body for Mason Health and Mason General Hospital), Darrin Moody is being challenged by Thor Austsson for Hospital Commissioner Position No. 1. Moody was appointed to the seat previously held by Scott Hilburn.
Gayle Weston is running unopposed for Hospital Commissioner Position No. 3.

Peggy VanBuskirk is running unopposed for Public Hospital District 2 Commissioner Position No. 3.

The Pioneer School Board race that has three candidates is Director Position No. 3. Shawn Montano and Stephanie Schlitz are challenging incumbent Robert Clark.
Susan (Soosi) Day is running unopposed for Pioneer School Board Director Position No. 5.

There is a contested race for North Mason School Board Director District No. 5. Michael Curtin is challenging Arla Shephard Bull who was appointed to the seat after the resignation of Craig Patti.
Leanna Krotzer is running unopposed for North Mason School Board Director District No. 2.

There are two contested races on the Mary M. Knight School Board.
Incumbent Shawn Donnelly is being challenged by Jill Edgin for School Board Director District No. 2.
And incumbent Mike Bateman is being challenged by Brenda Wilder for School Board Director Position No. 1.

There is a contested race for Hood Canal School Board Position No. 4: Dydemus Cordova is challenging Travis Harder for the seat currently held by Julie LeClair.
The incumbent for the other two races on the Hood Canal School Board are running unopposed.
Edie Reclusado for Director District No. 1 and Candice Beathard for Director District No. 3.

There are three people running unopposed for the Grapeview School Board: incumbent Thomas Anderson for Director Position No. 1; Deborah Olig for Director Position No. 3 (currently held by Pamela Berger); James Snyder for Director Position No. 4 (currently held by Michael Dekker).

Three new faces will be on the Shelton School Board as the three incumbents decided not to seek re-election. Marilyn Ward filed for Director Position No. 1 (the seat currently held by Sally Brownfield). Marty Best filed for Director District No. 2 (the seat Lynn Eaton was recently appointed to fill). And Matthew Welander filed for Director District No. 3 (the seat currently held by Sally Karr).

No one filed for the two seats up for election on the Southside School Board: Position No. 3 (currently held by Brian Phipps) and Position No. 5 (currently held by Matt Jewett).

There is a contested race for Mason County Fire District 11 Commissioner Position 1 where Kevin Ward and Bradley McCutcheon are running for the seat held by Dan Ward.

Other fire commission races are unopposed.

Raymond Mow for Port of Dewatto Commissioner District No. 2.

And Kristy Buck for Port of Shelton Commissioner Position No. 3.

No one filed for the two seats up for election on the Port of Hoodsport Commission: Position No. 2 (currently held by Lori Kincannon) and Position No. 3 (currently held by Karen A Booth).

Other races are unopposed.

The Primary Election is August 3, 2021 and ballots will be mailed to voters in the City of Shelton and Pioneer School District by July 15th.

The General Election is November 2, 2021 with ballots in the mail by October 14th.
