Both Highclimbers Teams Fall
On a night when the court in the Shelton High School Mini Dome was officially named for former Highclimbers basketball coach Terry Gregg, the ‘Climber boys’ basketball team fell to W.F. West 50 to 32.
Shelton was held scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game. The Highclimbers’ first points came on a three by Tyler Kenyon with 47 seconds remaining. The Bearcats continued their pressure defense and held the ‘Climbers to four points in the second quarter, building a 31 to 7 lead at the half.
The boys from Chehalis increased their lead to 26 in the third quarter but Shelton picked up their defensive pressure and closed the gap to 10 points midway through the fourth quarter. However, W.F. West adjusted and pulled away to remain undefeated in Evergreen Conference play.
The Bearcats were led by Carter McCoy’s 12 points and Dirk Plakinger’s 11.
Kenyon led the Highclimbers in his first game of the season, hitting four three-pointers and finishing with 14 points. Chuckie Thompson added 12 points.
Shelton drops to 4-and-4 on the season, 3-and-4 in the conference. The Highclimbers travel to Rochester Friday.
The Shelton girls’ basketball team lost at W.F. West Wednesday, 62 to 9. The Lady Highclimbers re 1-and-8 on the season, 1-and-6 in the Evergreen Conference. Shelton hosts Rochester Friday on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC. The game is set for 7 PM on Terry Gregg Court in the Shelton High School Mini Dome.
