A Washington State Patrol Trooper suffered minor injuries in a three-vehicle crash on State Route 3 near the south end of Grapeview Loop Road Friday.

According to a press memo, the Trooper was southbound on SR-3 about 11:40 AM with lights and siren activated. At milepost 15 (just north of Grapeview Loop Road), the highway curves. A northbound Chevrolet HHR was rounding the curve, saw the Trooper’s SUV and hit the brakes. However, the driver of the HHR lost control of the vehicle and struck the patrol vehicle in the southbound lane. The SUV then struck a Toyota Prius that had pulled to the southbound shoulder, yielding to the emergency lights.

The 33-year-old female Trooper transported herself to St. Michaels Hospital in Bremerton.
No other injuries were reported.

Investigators say that speed was a factor in this crash and the driver of the HHR, a 37-year-old Shelton woman, faces charges of Speed Too Fast for Conditions.

The State Patrol SUV was totaled. The other vehicles sustained “reportable” damage.
