To clarify the recent changes Mason County Public Health (MCPH) made to their Covid-19 reporting, please note the following:
• As the number of new cases increased daily when the Delta variant hit our county, the work required rapidly outpaced the county’s capacity to handle the volume of case reports coming in.
• MCPH turned the case reporting of this data over to the Washington State Department of Health.
• Since that time, the state has been maintaining the county’s numbers.
• MCPH continued to report out numbers using various reports from the Washington Disease Reporting System, but found that the reports they were running were returning different numbers than the state was reporting on the state data dashboard.
• Investigating the discrepancy, MCPH found they did not have the same algorithms to successfully prevent case duplication.
• To reconcile the two, MCPH now reports data available from the state data dashboard.
• This data is on a slight delay as is the state’s dashboard.
• Data reported by MCPH will contain data from the dashboard that is available no later than 3:15 pm daily.
