Primary Election ballots need to be returned to the Mason County Auditor’s Elections Department by 8 PM Tuesday or have a postmark no later than August 1, 2023.

Tuesday is the deadline for registered voters in the City of Shelton, Mason County Fire District 12, Central Mason Fire & EMS and West Mason Fire to get their ballots counted.

Voters in the City of Shelton have three candidates for Shelton City Council Member No. 1: Mary Eagleson, Tristen Smith and George Blush. The top two vote getters will face off in the November election.

Voters in the Matlock area are deciding whether to recall three fire commissioners and have three running for one commission position.
Voters will decide the top two candidates as Cinda Compton, Jennifer Jutson and Nicholas Jones are running for Mason County Fire District 12 Commissioner Position No. 2. This is the seat held by Albert “Buck” Wilder who has since resigned.
Wilder, John Pais and Brian Jutson are the three commissioners for the Matlock Fire Department who voters are being asked to recall. All three are accused of malfeasance, misfeasance and/or violating their oathes of office, misappropriation, and failure to follow state law, among other violations. Wilder, Pais and Jutson have resigned from the commission in the past two months.

Voters in Mason County Fire District 5 (Central Mason Fire & EMS) are being asked to increase the size of the Fire Commission from its current three members to five.

And voters in Mason County Fire District 16 (West Mason Fire) have two measures. One is a six-year 50-cent or less per thousand of assessed value Emergency Medical Services (EMS) levy. The other is a proposition to lift the fire district’s property tax levy lid to $1.50 per thousand.

Ballots should be returned to a ballot drop box BEFORE 8 PM Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Locations of ballot drop boxes include the Port of Allyn, 18560 E. State Route 3 in Allyn; Mason County Building I, 411 N. 5th Street in Shelton (in the alley between buildings 1 & 9, on the side walk along Pine Street, or in the Auditor’s Office on the second floor); Shelton Family YMCA, 3101 N. Shelton Springs Road; and the Fire Station in Dayton, 4650 W. Dayton Airport Road.

You can mail in your ballot – no postage necessary – but it must half a postmark no later than August 1st, which means putting it in your mailbox before your mail carrier arrives on Monday, July 31st or or dropping it in a mail box before July 31st to make sure your vote is counted.
