A 21-year-old Shelton woman died at the scene of a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in Lacey early Sunday morning.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the woman was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5 about 1:50 AM, apparently entering the freeway from the exit ramp of Exit 109. A semi was northbound in lane two of three approaching the exit. Both the woman’s car and the semi moved into lane three where they collided head-on. The highway was blocked for seven and a half hours.

A press memo identifies the deceased Shelton woman as Shelby R. Burton.

The driver of the semi, a 38-year-old Graham man, was not injured.

Troopers are still investigating.
