Losses for SHS Boys Hoops & Both NM Hoops

The Shelton boys’ basketball team‘s season came to an end in the Pigtail Game into the 2024 District 4 Tournament as the Highclimbers lost at Hockinson Thursday night 60 to 43.

The ‘Climbers held the Hawks to two points in the first quarter and led by as many as 17 in the second, taking a 30 to 15 lead at the half.
However, the Hawks flipped the script in the third quarter, holding Shelton to four points and stormed back into the game behind Patyton Poppe who hit four three-pointers in the quarter, scoring 15 of his 20 points in the period.
Shelton didn’t have an answer for Hockinson’s full court press in the second half which led to 18 Highclimber turnovers.
The Hawks were led in to scoring by Ryker Kitchen’s 24 points. The senior guard had 10 of Hockinson’s 15 first half points.
The Highclimbers got 17 points from Weetly Cordova. And Dante Cruz made three three-pointers in the first half to add 9.
Shelton finishes the season 9-and-10.

The North Mason boys’ basketball team wrapped up the regular season Thursday falling to Neah Bay 77 to 71. The Red Devils jumped out to an eight-point lead in the first quarter but the Bulldogs rebounded and tied the game. NB took back the lead in the second, going up seven, before NM rallied and tied the game. However, Neah Bay was able to put some distance on North Mason at the half, taking a 41 to 36 lead into the locker-room.
The third quarter saw the Bulldogs overtake the Red Devils, taking their first lead in the game with 1:36 left in the quarter and were up 52 to 49 heading into the fourth. The boys from Belfair increased their advantage to eight early in the final frame before Neah Bay rallied and pulled away for the win.
The Bulldogs were led in the loss by Cameron Revelez who made six three-pointers and finished with 22 points. Andrew Littrean added 17 points. And Derek Dunham chipped in 10.
North Mason finished the regular season with a 6-and-14 overall record and hope to earn an at-large bid in the District 2/3 Tournament.
The North Mason girls’ basketball team wasn’t able to contain Neah Bay Thursday as the Lady Bulldogs fell 53 to 18. After a 4-4 tie in the first quarter, the Lady Red Devils pulled away. NB lead 16 to 5 after one, 31 to 9 at the half, and 47 to 10 heading into the fourth before building a 41-point lead. NM’s leading scorer in the loss was Tanza Tupolo with 6 points. North Mason drops to 7-and-11 on the season. The girls from Belfair wrap up the regular season tonight at Franklin-Pierce tonight and are looking to earn an at-large bid into next week’s District 2/3 Tournament.
