A 28-year-old Shelton man was sentenced to 12 years in prison Friday for a fatal wrong-way DUI crash on Interstate 5 in Olympia last November.
The Olympian Newspaper reports that Draedon James Jorgenson received a 12-year prison sentence for the crash that killed a pregnant 31-year-old woman and her 2-year-old son. The woman’s 8-year-old daughter was also in the car but survived the crash after being ejected from the vehicle and was found pinned under a tire.
The sentence followed Jorgenson’s guilty plea to two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault for the November 10, 2023 head-on crash on southbound I-5 just north of U.S. Highway 101.
According to court records, Jorgenson had a blood alcohol level of 0.23 at the time of the crash which is nearly three-times the legal limit of 0.08.
As part of the plea deal, a fourth count, driving under the influence, was dismissed.
