A 64-year-old Port Angeles man died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101 near the Mason/Jefferson County Line Friday afternoon.

The Washington State Patrol says a truck was southbound on 101 about 12:30 PM. At milepost 312, the driver attempted to pass in the northbound lane, struck the guardrail and continued in the southbound lane. Then the driver lost control and the truck left the highway to the left, ending up in the northbound ditch.

A press memo says that at some point in this crash, the driver, identified as Leroy S. Perfect, 64 of Port Angeles, suffered a medical emergency and lists speed as a contributing cause of the crash.
