Mason County Fire District No. 12 has obtained insurance once again. The Fire District that serves the Matlock area announced Thursday that it “has achieved its initial primary goal of re-establishing” insurance coverage. As a result, the Fire Commission is hoping to hold their next meeting at the Matlock Fire Hall on Wednesday, August 14th. The Commissioners are inviting everyone to come to Station 12-1 to see the cleanup effort in progress.
The Fire District lost its insurance in May of this year which prevented Fire District No. 12 from responding to fire and EMS calls. This lack of ability to respond prompted the Mason County Commission approve a declaration of disaster for the Fire District. Mason County Emergency Management then took over the Fire District and trained volunteers who began responding to medical emergencies.
Shortly after the disaster declaration, Fire Commissioners Kelley Walsworth, Cinda Compton, and Nick Jones resigned and the County Commissioners appointed two new commissioners, Trina Young and Dave Persell, who appointed a third commissioner, Steve Ingram. The new commission then took several actions to rebuild the Fire District and regain insurance coverage.
