Initial results from Tuesday’s Primary Election have been released and an incumbent County Commissioner is leading in one race, a non-party candidate is on top in the other County Commissioner race, and the Fire District measures are passing.

Incumbent Randy Neatherlin is leading in his bid to remain Mason County Commissioner District 1 with 54.81% of the vote (2,706 votes). Republican William “Will” Harris follows with 28.84% (1,424 votes). And the third candidate in the race, Ted Jackson, has 15.6% (770 votes). There were 37 write-in votes (0.75%).

The leader in the race to fill Kevin Shutty’s Mason County Commissioner District 2 seat is Tom Beben (who has no party preference) with 40.55% (1,583 votes). Republican Pat Tarzwell follows with 34.12% (1,332 vote). And the third candidate in the race, Republican Richard Beckman, has 24.31% (949 votes). There were 40 write-in votes (1.02%).

The voters in the Union area are supporting Mason County Fire District 6’s property tax levy which as 65.52% approval. That’s 418 voting “Yes” and 220 voting “No”.

North Mason Regional Fire Authority’s measure also has support with 65.26% approval. That’s 1,492 voting “Yes” and 794 voting “No”.

In the 35th Legislative District, incumbent Republican Travis Couture leads the race for State Representative Position 2 with 45.3% (11,325 votes). Democrat James DeHart follows with 42.72% (10,930 votes). And the third candidate in the race, Republican Eric Onisko, has 10.85% (2,712 votes). There were 34 write-in votes (0.14%).

In the race to fill the 6th Congressional District U.S. Representative currently held by Derek Kilmer, Democrat Emily Randall leads the way with 33.28%. Republican Drew MacEwen follows with 30.49%. And Hilary Franz is third in the five-candidate race with 25.66%.

For U.S. Senator, incumbent Democrat Maria Cantwell has a substantial lead with 57.83%. Republican Dr. Raul Garcia is the second candidate in the race with 21.23%.

After initial results were released Tuesday night, the top two candidates for Governor are Democrat Bob Ferguson and Republican Dave Reichert.
For Lt. Governor: incumbent Democrat Denny Heck and Republican Dan Matthews with Republican Bob Hagglund in third place by about six percent.
Secretary of State: incumbent Democrat Steve Hobbs and Republican Dale Whitaker.
State Treasure: incumbent Democrat Mike Pellicciotti and Republican Sharon Hanek.
State Auditor: incumbent Democrat Pat McCarthy and Republican Matt Hawkins.
Attorney General: Republican Pete Serrano and Democrat Nick Brown.
Commissioner of Public Lands: Jaime Herrera Beutler and Sue Kuehl Pederson – both republicans. Democrat Dave Upthegrove is third by less than half a percent.
Superintendent of Public Instruction: incumbent Chris Reykdal and David Olson.
Insurance Commissioner: Democrat Patty Kuderer and Republican Phil Fortunato.
Supreme Court Justice Position #2: Sal Mungia and Dave Larson.

More ballots will be counted Wednesday. Election officials in the Mason County Auditor’s Office has about 3,000 ballots to be process with addition results expected around 5 PM.
