No substantial changes in the numbers from Tuesday’s Primary Election after additional ballots were counted Wednesday.
Incumbent Independent Randy Neatherlin is still leading in his bid to remain Mason County Commissioner District 1 now with 54.61% of the vote (2,929 votes). Republican William “Will” Harris follows now with 29.22% (1,567 votes). And the third candidate in the race, Republican Ted Jackson, now has 15.35% (823 votes). There are now 44 write-in votes (0.82%).
The leader in the race to fill Kevin Shutty’s Mason County Commissioner District 2 seat is still Tom Beben (who has no party preference) now with 40.75% (1,850 votes). Republican Pat Tarzwell follows now with 34.34% (1,559 votes). And the third candidate in the race, Republican Richard Beckman, now has 23.94% (1,087 votes). There are now 44 write-in votes (0.97%).
The top two vote getters advance to the November General Election with Neathlin facing Harris for Mason County Commissioner District 1. And Beben taking on Tarzwell for Mason County Commissioner District 2.
The voters in the Union area are supporting Mason County Fire District 6’s property tax levy which now has 64.37% approval. That’s 477 voting “Yes” and 264 voting “No”.
North Mason Regional Fire Authority’s measure also has voter support now with 64.79% approval. That’s 1,551 voting “Yes” and 843 voting “No”.
In the 35th Legislative District, incumbent Republican Travis Couture still leads the race for State Representative Position 2 now with 45.47% (12,41 votes). Democrat James DeHart follows now with 43.52% (11,876 votes). And the third candidate in the race, Republican Eric Onisko, now has 10.86% (2,965 votes). There are now 39 write-in votes (0.14%). Couture and DeHart are the top two candidates in this race and will face off in the General Election.
In the race to fill the 6th Congressional District U.S. Representative currently held by Derek Kilmer, Democrat Emily Randall is still on top now with 33.87%. Republican Drew MacEwen is a close second now with 30.33%. And Democrate Hilary Franz is third in the five-candidate race now with 25.48%. However, it appears Randall and MacEwen advance to the November General Election.
For U.S. Senator, incumbent Democrat Maria Cantwell maintains her substantial now lead with 57.8%. Republican Dr. Raul Garcia is the second candidate in the race with 21.48%.
The only change of note from statewide races is the race for the second candidate for Commissioner of Public Lands, Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler is still the leader with 22.48% (254,698 votes). At last report, Republican Sue Kuehl Pederson is in second place with 20.39% (231,030 votes) leading Democrat Dave Upthegrove by about 3200 votes. Upthegrove now has 20.1% (227,822 votes).
There haven’t been any changes in the top two candidates for other state-wide races.
For Governor: Democrat Bob Ferguson and Republican Dave Reichert.
For Lt. Governor: incumbent Democrat Denny Heck and Republican Dan Matthews.
Secretary of State: incumbent Democrat Steve Hobbs and Republican Dale Whitaker.
State Treasure: incumbent Democrat Mike Pellicciotti and Republican Sharon Hanek.
State Auditor: incumbent Democrat Pat McCarthy and Republican Matt Hawkins.
Attorney General: Republican Pete Serrano and Democrat Nick Brown.
Superintendent of Public Instruction: incumbent Chris Reykdal and David Olson.
Insurance Commissioner: Democrat Patty Kuderer and Republican Phil Fortunato.
Supreme Court Justice Position #2: Sal Mungia and Dave Larson.
More ballots will be counted Thursday. Election officials in the Mason County Auditor’s Office have about 4,000 ballots on hand with additional results expected around 5 PM August 8th.
