More ballots from last Tuesday’s Primary Election were counted Monday and the only significant note is in the results for Commissioner of Public Lands. The top two candidates for all other races have been set.
The statewide Commissioner of Public Lands race has three of the seven candidates separated by a percent and a quarter. Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler is still the top vote getter now with 21.9% (404,536 votes). Democrat Dave Upthegrove is currently in second place with 20.99% (387,857 votes) closely followed by Republican Sue Kuehl Pederson who now has 20.68% (382,133 votes). The difference between Upthegrove and Pederson is 0.31% (5,724 votes).
The top two candidates for Mason County Commissioner District 1 are Randy Neatherlin and William “Will” Harris.
The latest numbers have Neatherlin with 55.37% (4,219 votes), Harris with 28.18% (2,147 votes), and Ted Jackson with 15.68% (1,195 votes)
The top two candidates for Mason County Commissioner District 2 are Tom Beben and Pat Tarzwell.
The latest numbers show Beben with 40.99% (2,533 votes), Tarzwell with 33.99% (2,100 votes), and Richard Beckman with 24.13% (1,491 votes).
The fire district measures continue above 60% approval.
Mason County Fire District 6’s Property Tax Levy for Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services has 61.72% approval. That’s 611 voting “Yes” and 379 voting “No”.
North Mason Regional Fire Authority’s Property Tax Levy for Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services has 64.54% approval. That’s 2,430 voting “Yes” and 1,335 voting “No”.
In the 35th Legislative District State Representative Position 2 race, incumbent Republican Travis Couture continues leading Democrat James DeHart. Couture now has 46.79% (22,091 votes) to DeHart’s 42.85% (20,229 votes). The third candidate in the race, Republican Eric Onisko, now has 10.422% (4,823 votes).
Couture and DeHart will face off in the November General Election.
In the race to fill the 6th Congressional District U.S. Representative currently held by Derek Kilmer, Democrat Emily Randall will face Republican Drew MacEwen in November. As of 5:01 PM Friday, Randall had 34.44% to MacEwen’s 30.22%.
Democrat Hilary Franz is the closest of the other three candidates in this race, now with 24.8%. The other two candidates didn’t reach double digit percentages.
For U.S. Senator, incumbent Democrat Maria Cantwell maintains her substantial now lead now with 57.52%. Republican Dr. Raul Garcia is the second candidate in the race with 22%.

For Lt. Governor: incumbent Democrat Denny Heck and Republican Dan Matthews.
Secretary of State: incumbent Democrat Steve Hobbs and Republican Dale Whitaker.
State Treasure: incumbent Democrat Mike Pellicciotti and Republican Sharon Hanek.
State Auditor: incumbent Democrat Pat McCarthy and Republican Matt Hawkins.
Attorney General: Republican Pete Serrano and Democrat Nick Brown.
Superintendent of Public Instruction: incumbent Chris Reykdal and David Olson.
Insurance Commissioner: Democrat Patty Kuderer and Republican Phil Fortunato.
Supreme Court Justice Position #2: Sal Mungia and Dave Larson.
Election officials in the Mason County Auditor’s Office have counted 20,073 ballots so for from the Primary Election which brings the county’s voter turnout to 44.55%. With only a handful of ballots on hand, the next ballot county in Mason County is August 19th.
Statewide there are about 82,000 ballots still to be counted.
