Win of NM; Loss for SHS
The North Mason football team improved to 2-and-0 on the season Friday, knocking off Kingston 30 to 10. (Click here for Shawna Whelan photos of the game.)

The Bulldogs recovered a fumble on the Buccaneers’ opening drive and Caden Atencio went 50 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Atencio put NM up 14 to 0 with a seven-yard TD run in the second quarter.
Kingston got on the board in the second quarter on a fumble that rolled into the end zone. The teams headed into the locker room at the half with North Mason up 14 to 7.
In the third quarter, the Bucs added a 35-yard field goal, making the score 14 to 10 heading into the fourth.
North Mason’s Atencio added his third touch down on a 15-yard scamper with 7:21 and his fourth TD on a three-yard dive up the middle with 2:25 left. The Bulldogs’ special teams and defense held Kingston deep in their end of the field and a bad snap led to a safety.
The boys from Belfair hit the road next Friday, traveling to Port Angeles.

The Highclimbers and the Rams were in a close back-and-forth contest until the fourth quarter when NT pulled away.
North Thurston got on the board first, taking advantage of Shelton’s second turnover with quarterback David Perez throwing a 30-yard TD pass to George Watlington.
The Highclimbers tied the game late in the second quarter when QB Wyatt Depoe threw a screen pass the Bennet Henry who went 15 yard for the TD.
Shelton took its first lead of the game midway through the third quarter on a five-yard run by Robert Knight III.
The Rams responded two plays later when Jalen Kennedy ran 35 yards to tie the game and took the lead back on the a pic-six by Garrett Finkenbinder returned an interception 25 yard to put North Thurston up 21 to 14.
The Highclimbers tied the game again late in the third, taking advantage of a fumbled punt that was recover by Hunter Leth at the Rams’ one-yard line. Gabe Gouley then ran into the end zone one offensive play later.
The fourth quarter, however, belonged to North Thurston with a six-yard TD run by backup quarterback Nathan Ung; recovered a fumble and a 45-yard TD run by Kennedy; and Breaven Ramsey ripped the ball away from Depoe and returned it 25 yards for the game’s final score.
The Rams picked up their first win of the season and take their 1-and-1 record to Vancouver next week to face Evergreen at McKenzie Stadium.
Shelton dropped to 0-and-2. The Highclimbers return to Jack Stark Field at Highclimber Stadium next Friday and host Capital on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

The Mary M. Knight volleyball team lost to Quilcene Friday three games to one. The Owls are now 2-and-2 on the season. They play at Lake Quinault Tuesday.
