Rep. Dan Griffey and Rep. Travis Couture, both R-Allyn, will continue the long tradition of 35th District lawmakers serving in leadership roles in the upcoming 2025 session.
On Saturday, Griffey was re-elected as Whip for the House Republican Caucus and Couture was elected Assistant Floor Leader.
“It is a privilege to continue to serve my caucus as Republican Whip,” said Griffey. “I have a great team, and I am looking forward to what we can accomplish in 2025 and beyond.”
“I am excited to get to work. We have a lot of things to fix in Washington,” said Couture. “It is truly an honor to have been selected by my colleagues to take on this new role as Assistant Floor Leader.”
Griffey has been a member of the leadership team since 2016 when he was named Assistant Caucus Whip and has served as Caucus Whip since the 2019 session. Griffey took office in 2015.
Among other duties, the Caucus Whip counts votes and helps maintain decorum during floor action and caucus meetings.
“As I’ve always said, being Caucus Whip is much like my time as a fire lieutenant – where it was essential to support and motivate my team to help further our common goals,” said Griffey. “We are united in our efforts to improve and protect the lives of the people of Washington state and bring about change that is right and real.”
This is Couture’s first leadership role since being elected 35th District representative in 2022.
The Assistant Floor Leader helps the Floor Leader with the floor strategy and debate organization as well as messaging for caucus priorities.
“From education, child care, crime and the drug crisis, there is so much that we need to get done to fix our state,” said Couture. “I look forward to working in this new role to help get Republican solutions across the finish line.”
