Rep. Travis Couture, R-Allyn, has been selected as the ranking Republican on the House Appropriations Committee. The 35th District representative previously served as the assistant ranking member on the important budget committee.

The House Appropriations Committee takes up budget-related legislation and the operating budget.

“I’m honored to be selected to help lead this important committee as we work to right the state budget and reign in the out-of-control spending we have seen from the majority party over the past decade,” said Couture. “Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. I look forward to working in a bipartisan way during the 2025 session and will fiercely advocate for responsible state spending that improves the lives of all Washingtonians.”

Couture also serves as a member of the House Education Committee.

In addition to his committee roles, Couture has also been elected to serve as an assistant floor leader during the 2025 session.

“We have a lot of things to fix in Washington,” added Couture. “It’s truly an honor to have been selected by my colleagues to take on this new role as assistant floor leader.”

This is Couture’s first caucus leadership position. In his role as assistant floor leader, his responsibilities include organizing and managing debate on the House floor, developing legislative strategy and policy, and assisting caucus leadership in negotiations with the majority party.

“We have a catalog of crises to fix in Washington state,” said Couture. “I am excited to take on this new role to help resolve those crises and get Republican solutions across the finish line.”

The 2025 legislative session starts Jan. 13.
