High School Sports Results from 3/11/25

Spring Sports Underway: SHS Soccer Over NM; SHS New Football Coach

Spring sports are now underway as the boys’ soccer version of the Mason County Cup saw Shelton shut out North Mason 5 to 0 Tuesday. Specific details about the match in Belfair were not available. The Highclimbers have their home opener Friday against North Thurston. The Bulldogs’ next action is Tuesday at Phil Pugh Stadium against Port Angeles.

Baseball and fastpitch softball start play today (Wed. 3/12/25) weather permitting.
The Shelton baseball team hosts Klahowya at 4 PM on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The Highclimbers’ fastpitch team plays a scrimmage today at the RAC (Regional Athletic Complex) in Lacey at 3:15 PM. Shelton will play three innings against Timberline and three innings against Olympia. The Lady-‘Climbers’ first full game is Friday at North Mason on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

Without much fanfare, Shelton has a new football coach: Garrett Baldwin. Tuesday, the Shelton School Board approved a personnel report that included several coaching positions. Among those hires were Monica Aikins as head volleyball coach, Rich Squire as head fastpitch coach, Jim St. George as girls’ golf head coach, Rachel Lovingfoss as girls’ tennis head coach, Rob Fairbrother as boys’ soccer head coach, Doug Sells as head track coach, and Baldwin as head football coach. The personnel report was approved under the board’s consent agenda.

Garret Baldwin is from the Tumwater area (graduating from Black Hills High School) and most recently served as an assistant coach at Valley City State University in North Dakota where he worked with quarterbacks and receivers, coordinated kickoff returns, assisted with special teams, and helped with recruiting and player development. Baldwin has coached semi-pro football in Germany, was an assistant for River Ridge High School, and was head coach and offensive coordinator at Black Hills where he helped the Wolves to a state quarterfinals appearance in 2022. Coach Baldwin will begin his tenor as the Highclimbers’ head football coach in August.
