A two-vehicle crash on State Route 302 near North Bay injured six people Tuesday afternoon.
The Washington State Patrol says an eastbound SUV failed to negotiate a curve at milepost 1, drove into oncoming traffic and struck a westbound pickup truck about 1:30 PM. The SUV came to rest in the westbound lane. The truck ended up in the eastbound lane.
In a post on X.com, the State Patrol says there were five occupants in the truck, three of them were sitting on the floor of the truck and NOT wearing seatbelts.
Three of the six injured were flown to hospitals from a landing zone at Phil Pugh Stadium adjacent to Hawkins Middle School in Belfair.
The driver of the SUV, an 87-year-old Belfair woman, was flown to Tacoma General Hospital.
A passenger in the truck, a 42-year-old Poulsbo woman, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
And a 75-year-old Belfair woman (who a press memo indicates was a passenger in the pickup and was wearing a seatbelt) was also flown to Harborview.
Another passengers in the truck, a 20-year-old Poulsbo woman, was transported to St. Michael’s Medial Center in Bremerton.
An 18-year-old Poulsbo woman (also a passenger in the truck), was transported to Tacoma General.
And the driver of the pickup truck, a 32-year-old man from Ancorage, Alaska, “self transported from the scene”.
Both vehicles were totaled and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
