Mason County’s unemployment rate for March was down more than a percentage point (1.2%) from February. According to preliminary figures from Washington State Employment Security, Mason County’s unemployment rate last month was 5.2%. That’s down 1.2% from February’s revised rate of 6.4% and down 1.1% from March 2024’s unemployment rate of 6.3%.

With the exception of Pierce County, adjacent counties saw decrease in unemployment rates of more than one percent from February to March. Jefferson County’s 5.3% is down 1.4%. Grays Harbor County saw a drop of 1.3% to 6%. And there was a one-percent decrease in Kitsap (4.2%) and Thurston (4.3%) counties. Pierce County saw a one-tenth of a percent increase in March to 4.8%.
