A 49-year-old man Quilcene man died at the scene of a motorcycle vs. truck crash on U.S. Highway 101 north of Seal Rock in Jefferson County Sunday night.

The Washington State Patrol says a truck pulled over to the right shoulder of northbound 101 at milepost 304 and “quickly re-entered the northbound lane while performing a U-turn.” The motorcycle was unable to stop and struck the front driver’s side tire of the truck. The motorcycle and the truck “became attached” and continued across the roadway, ignited and came to rest in the southbound ditch fully engulfed in flames. The rider of the motorcycle was ejected over the truck and came to rest in the ditch.

The motorcyclist, identified as Kevin L. Lewis, 49 of Quilcene, was deceased at the scene.

A press memo indicates that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash and lists the cause at DUI, speed, and improper U-turn.

The driver of the truck, a 59-year-old Brinnon man, was taken into custody by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. He faces charges of Driving Under the Influence and Vehicular Homicide.
