Our Community Credit Union announced Friday a donation of $25,758 in support of the City of Shelton Police Department’s acquisition of two new K9 units. This contribution highlights Our Community Credit Union’s commitment to enhancing public safety and supporting local law enforcement efforts.
The donation will enable the Shelton Police Department to expand its K9 program, which plays a crucial role in various law enforcement activities, including search and rescue operations, narcotics detection, and community engagement. The addition of these two new K9s will significantly bolster the department’s capabilities and ensure a safer community for all residents.
“We are thrilled to support the Shelton Police Department with this donation,” said Bert Fisher, OURCU President. “K9 units are invaluable assets to our community, and we are honored to contribute to their continued success and effectiveness.”
The new K9s, named Maverick and Tim, have already begun their bonding time with their handlers, Sgt. Diaz and Officer Belleville, respectively. The training for these K9s will include obedience, tracking, suspect locating/apprehension, handler protection, building search, article search, and area search. K9 Maverick, who is 2 years old, is expected to complete training in approximately 5 weeks, while K9 Tim, who is 13 months old, will complete training in about 10 weeks.
Detective Sergeant, Christopher Downs of the Shelton Police Department expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, “A tremendous thank you to OURCU for their continued support of the Shelton Police Departments K9 program. Without the support it would be incredibly difficult to continue provide and maintain this vital asset to the Officers and community!”
Our Community Credit Union has a strong tradition of community involvement and support. This donation is part of the credit union’s ongoing efforts to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of its residents.
