Mason PUD 3 is planning an overnight outage July 16-17 affecting about 6,000 North Mason customers as part of a multi-phase system upgrade project. Areas affected include all of the Tahuya Peninsula, and most of Belfair proper. Customers affected by the outage have been notified based on the contact preferences they have provided.

The outage window will last from about 10 PM Wednesday, July 16, until about 6 AM Thursday, July 17.

The original planned outage for July 10-11 will not occur.

On July 16, crews will install a new, larger power transformer at the Belfair substation. During the outage, crews will perform maintenance on the transmission lines that connect from the Belfair substation to both the Union River and Collins Lake substations. During the outage, PUD 3 recommends some actions to minimize impact:

  • Unplug sensitive appliances and electronic equipment until power has been restored for about 20 minutes.
  • Use surge protectors, especially with electronics.
  • Keep fridge and freezer doors closed to avoid spoiling food. Freezers will keep items frozen for as long as 48 hours if left closed. A fridge will stay cold for up to 4 hours – it’s best to keep perishables either frozen or in a cooler packed with ice.
  • On a warm night, open the windows to allow cool night air in. This is a good tip for energy savings in general.

PUD 3 appreciates everyone’s patience during this work which will help PUD 3 to continue to offer safe and reliable service.
