There is a wildfire burning near Brinnon in Jefferson County.

According to Brinnon Fire Department, fire crews, with strong support from regional partners, have successfully stopped the forward progress of the Belgian Fire. Firefighters are actively working through the night to strengthen containment lines and ensure continued safety.

Approximately five acres of brush and heavy timber have burned. Two structures, a vacant residence and an unoccupied single-wide trailer, along with two derelict vehicles, were lost. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

More than 70 firefighters responded to this incident, with mutual aid from Quilcene Fire Rescue, East Jefferson Fire Rescue, Mason County, Navy Region Northwest, Washington DNR, and strike teams from Kitsap and Mason Counties. Two helicopters provided critical aerial support and have now been released. A state mobilization has been authorized, and resources will remain in place for the next 72 hours.

Power has been restored to all affected areas, including Belgian Drive, Morocco Place, and Arabian Drive.

Residents are now allowed to return home. However, the Level 1 “Be Ready” evacuation notice remains in effect for the north side of Dosewallips Road from Rocky Brook Road to approximately one mile north. Please stay alert and ready to evacuate again if conditions change.

The Brinnon Community Center remains open for support. If you’d like to help, bottled water and sports drinks are still appreciated for the crews working the fire lines.
