The initial results from the August 5th Primary Election show all measures receiving more than 50% approval and incumbents among the top two to advance to the General Election.

After initial numbers were released Tuesday night, the City of Shelton’s sales tax measures to renew the City’s Transportation Improvement District had 71.81% approval. That’s 698 voting “Yes” and 274 voting “No”.

In the race for City of Shelton Council Member No. 3, incumbent Sharon Schirman leads with 385 votes (40.1%), followed by Kenneth G. Mobley with 306 votes (31.87%). Douglas Peterson is third with 138 votes (14.37%) and then Carl Rhodes has 116 votes (12.08%). The top two vote getters advance to the November General Election and that appears to be Schirman and Mobley.

The other candidate primary race is for Mary M. Knight School Board Director Position No. 1. Incumbent Kayla Mali is the leader with 150 votes (56.6%) followed by Tracey Ushman who had 93 votes (35.09%). The third candidate in the race is Tessa Fatland who received 18 votes (6.79%). There were also four write-in votes (1.51%). It appears Mali will face Ushman in the General Election.

There were three fire district measures on the Primary Ballot.

The merger of Mason County Fire District No. 17 into Mason County Fire District No. 18 has overwhelming support with 92.02% approval. That’s 196 voting “Yes” and 17 voting “No”.

Mason County Fire District No. 12’s property tax levy lid lift has a 52.72% approval. That’s 155 Matlock area voters in favor of the measure and 139 voting against.

Mason County Fire District No. 16’s property tax levy has 56.68% approval. That’s 352 West Mason Fire voters in favor of the measure and 269 against.

More ballots from Tuesday’s election will be counted on Friday.
