Drivers 55 years or older can qualify for a discount on their auto insurance by completing a Senior Driving Course at the Shelton Senior Center on September 30th. This course covers over 30 topics including tips for driving on the freeway; driving in roundabouts; night driving; following distance; reference points; and road rage.

The presentation is endorsed by the Washington Traffic Safety Education Association (WTSEA), the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC), the American Automobile Association (AAA), and the Washington Department of Licensing (DOL). Gerald Apple is the presenter.

The Senior Driving Course begins at 9 AM and the cost is $20.00 per person with lunch included.

At the end of the course, each participant will receive a certificate which can be presented to your insurance company to receive a discount on your auto insurance of 5 to 10%.

Gerald Apple is a OSPI Certificated Public School Teacher who has taught Traffic Safety (Driver’s Education) in public schools for more than 54 years. Mr. Apple is also certified to administer the Washington State DOL written and driving tests. In 1997 Gerald was the President of the American Driver Training Safety Education Association, (ADTSEA) and is currently serving on the board of directors. In 2023, Apple was named the National Traffic Safety Education Teacher of the Year by the American Driver Training Safety Education Association, (ADTSEA). And Gerry has been the Coordinating Secretary of the Washington Traffic Safety Education Association (WTSEA) since 1991 and served as President of WTSEA for 2001-2003.
