Wins for NM & MMK Football; SHS Cross Country Results
[VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS] The North Mason football team improved to 3-and-0 on the season beating Port Angeles Saturday 48 to 14. The Bulldogs turned in another dominating performance on both sides of the ball. NM’s defense had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Caden Atencio had four touchdowns and an interception. The senior running back had TD runs of 8 yard, 4 yards, 64 yards and 70 yards.
Quarterback Danner Jones threw two touchdown passes: 5 yards to Derek Dunham and 42 yards to Chris Arbogast. North Mason’s final score came midway through the third quarter when backup QB, Reid Shumaker, took a bad snap and scrambled for 21 yards to the end zone, giving the Bulldogs a 48 to 0 lead.
Next week’s opponent, North Kitsap, will be NM’s biggest test of the season.
The Mary M. Knight six-man football team picked up its first win of the season Saturday beating Lake Quinault 26 to 12 on the road. All of the Owls’ points came in the first half and were scored by Ryder Lake who ran 70 yards for his first touchdown, went 57 yards for his second TD, intercepted a pass and returned it 37 yards for a third touchdown and capped the half with a one-yard TD run in which he picked up his own fumble and took it to the end zone. MMK had a 26 to 6 lead at halftime. The Elks took the bulk of the third quarter to get their second TD while keeping Mary M. Knight out of the end zone in the second half. The Owls are now 1-and-1 on the season. MMK holds its home opener at 4 PM Thursday against Easton.
The Shelton cross country teams participated in the 89-team Fort Steilacoom Invitational Saturday.
The Highclimbers’ Madison Lohmeyer finished 13th and Hailee Nadeau was 24th among the 149 Girls’ Bronze Varsity runners.
In team scoring, the Shelton boys were 17th with Trayson Bartholomew finishing 30th among the 193 Boys Bronze Varsity runners.
The ‘Climbers next run against Heritage and Kelso Wednesday in Kelso.
