Mason County’s unemployment rate went up from July to August. Washington State Employment Security says the County’s unemployment rate in August was 5.4%. That’s up two-tenths of a percentage point from July’s revised rate of 5.2% and four-tenths lower than August 2024’s revised rate of 5.8%.

With the exception of Grays Harbor County (which held steady at 5.6%), adjacent counties also saw small increases in unemployment rates. Jefferson County’s unemployment rate went up three-tenths to 4.8%. Kitsap County saw a two-tenths increase to 4.3%. And there was a one-tenth of a percent increase in Thurston (4.5%) and Pierce (5%) counties.
