Wins for NM Football & MMK Volleyball; Losses for NM & SHS Volleyball & Soccer
The North Mason football team ran past Bremerton Thursday 49 to 28. After taking the opening drive 79 yards on nine plays for the game’s first touchdown, the Bulldogs recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and went 54 yards on eight plays to score another TD. On the next kickoff, NM recovered another fumble which turned into another touchdown and the boys from Belfair were up 21 to 0 with less than a minute left in the first quarter.
The Knights then showed their ability to score on big plays with a 46-yard TD pass and a 68-yard TD run to close to 21-14.
North Mason put together another long drive to go up 28-14 but again Bremerton kept pace with another touchdown following a long pass and the first half ended with the Bulldogs up 28 to 21.
In the second half North Mason shutdown Bremerton and pulled away behind the running of Caden Atencio who finished with (unofficially) 339 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Danner Jones scored the Bulldogs’ other two TDs.
North Mason improves to 6-and-1 on the season, 3-and-1 in the Olympic League. The Bulldogs host League-leading Olympic next Friday.
During halftime of Thursday’s football game, North Mason retired the jersey of C.J. Allen who graduated from the Belfair high school and competed in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The Mary M. Knight volleyball team swept Wishkah Valley Thursday 3 to 0. The Owls are now 7-and-6 on the season, 4-and-6 in the Coastal League. MMK hosts Willapa Valley Tuesday.
The North Mason volleyball team lost at Kingston Thursday 3 to 0. The Bulldogs drop to 3-and-10 on the season, 2-and-8 in the Olympic League. NM plays at North Kitsap Tuesday.
The North Mason girls’ soccer team was shutout at Kingston Thursday 4 to 0. The Bulldogs drop to 2-and-10 on the season, 1-and-9 in the Olympic League. The teams play again Friday, this time in Belfair.
The Shelton girls’ soccer team was shut out at Black Hills Thursday 4 to 0. The Highclimbers are now 1-11-and-1 on the season. 0-and-7 in the Evergreen Conference. The Lady-‘Climbers travel to Tumwater Tuesday.
