An SUV being towed came loose and was struck by two other vehicles on U.S. Highway 101 near the interchange with State Route 3 early Friday morning.
The Washington State Patrol says an unknown vehicle was towing the SUV northbound on 101 using a dolly about 3:30 AM. Just south of the exit to Highway 3, the tow dolly had a “critical failure” and the towed SUV separated from the dolly, coming to rest in lane two of northbound 101. The towing vehicle continued northbound. Another northbound SUV struck the towed SUV in lane two, ending up on the left shoulder. A third vehicle, a semi truck pulling a chip trailer, then struck the towed SUV. The semi and trailer came to rest blocking lane two. The towed SUV ended up in the northbound ditch.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the two Shelton women in the second SUV were transported to Mason General Hospital in Shelton as precautions.
The State Patrol is still investigating this collision. Anyone with information on crash or the towing driver who continued northbound on 101, should contact the Washington State Patrol.
