Win for SHS Boys Hoops; Losses for NM Hoops & MMK Girls Hoops
The Shelton boys’ basketball team started slow but lit up Rochester Friday 66 to 28.

The Highclimbers turned a two-point first quarter lead into a 21-point halftime advantage, were up 31 in the third and costed in the fourth. The ‘Climbers hit seven three-pointers in the game and had 16 steals. Shelton was led by Masyn Gard’s double, double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Fletcher Henry (four steals) and Brayden Phipps each scored 11 points. Carter Garcia came off the bench and added 10 points – all in the fourth quarter. And Sam Parsons hit three, three-pointers for nine points.
The Warriors were led in the loss by Tyson Canales’ seven points.
The Highclimbers take their 1-and-1 record to Hoquiam Saturday.
The North Mason girls’ basketball team fell behind Port Angeles early in Friday’s game and lost 50 to 15. The Bulldogs were led in the loss by Delilah Schmidt who scored six points. NM is 1-and-1 on the season, 0-and-1 in the Olympic League. North Mason hosts Sequim Tuesday.
The North Mason boys’ basketball team lost to Port Angeles Friday 68 to 52. The Bulldogs were led in the loss by Cameron Revelez who scored 16 points and Derek Dunham who added 15 points. NM drops to 1-and-2 on the season, 0-and-1 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair travel to Sequim Tuesday.
The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team dropped their season opener Friday at Oakville 38 to 30. The Owls fell behind by nine points in the first quarter but battled back and close to two points in the third. The Acorns made another run and were up seven early in the fourth but MMK closed the gap again to two. Unfortunately, Mary M. Knight turnovers down the stretch did the Owls in. MMK was led in the loss by Maelynn Nygaard who scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Bella Buck added 10 points and seven rebounds. And Andiana Ziegler pulled down nine boards. Mary M. Knight jumps right into Coastal League play Tuesday at Naselle.
