SHS Softball State Bound; NM Softball Fall in District
The Shelton fastpitch softball team is headed to the State Tournament after beating Prairie for the second time in two days. On Saturday, the Highclimbers took a winner-to-State/loser-out game on Saturday 3 to 1.
The Falcons’ Mackenzie Moore led off the game with a solo home run but after that, Prairie was only able to get five players on base.
Shelton took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Emi McFarland tied the game with a ground ball that scored Liv Rasmussen. Kaylee Rix followed with another single that scored Lexi Rowland.
McFarland added an insurance run by leading off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run.
Jonni Gouley was again affective in the pithing circle, retiring 21 of the 27 batters she faced with the Falcons going one-two-three in the third, fourth and sixth innings.
At the plate, McFarland was 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBI. Kaylee Rix batted in a run. Abby Fauula was 2 for 4. And Cassandra Tyler, Jonni Gouley, Lexi Rowland and Makayla Lee had a hit each for the Highclimbers.
Shelton won three games and lost one in the District 4 Tourney and now has a 13-and-11 record. The Highclimbers wait to see who they will play in the opening round of the State Tournament which begins on Thursday at the Regional Recreation Complex (RAC) in Lacey. Seeding for State Tournaments will take place on Sunday.
According to the WIAA, Shelton Fastpitch Softball's last appearance in the State Tournament was 1995.
The North Mason fastpitch softball team‘s season came to an end Saturday in consolation bracket of the 2026 District 3 Class 2A Fastpitch Softball Tournament. The Bulldogs played two games on Saturday: beating Bremerton 15 to 5 but falling to Kingston 10 to 6.
NM had 14 hits in the first game against Bremerton: Taylor Madison was 4 for 5 with an RBI; Addyson Roy was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI; Fiona Youngberg was 2 for 4 with four RBI; Faith Porter was 2 for 4 with three RBI; Kennady Carson hit a double; and Sydnnie Imlay, and ZoeyHolddorf each had hits.
Addyson Roy got the win in the pitching circle, going six innings allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
North Mason’s bat remained hot in the loss to Kingston with ten hits. Sydnnie Imlay was 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI. Faith Porter was 3 for 4. Taylor Madison was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Kaylani Ivie was 2 for 4. And Kennady Carson hit a double and batted in two runs.
Addyson Roy pitched six innings, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
The Bulldogs finish the season with a 13-and-11 record. NM won two games and lost two in the District 3 Tournament.
