A plane landed short of the runway at Shelton’s Sanderson Field on Friday and the pilot was seriously injured.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the 1998 Cessna 208B, reportedly owned by Skydive Kapowsin, was returning to the airport. About 12:30 PM, the single-engine aircraft landed short of the runway. The 73-year-old pilot was the only one onboard and sustained life threatening injuries. Identified as David A. Kaiser of Shelton, he was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Crews from Central Mason Fire & EMS arrived on the scene at 12:39 PM. Also responding were the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Port of Shelton.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the cause of the crash.
