On July 10, Mason Health will host the 30th Quality Care Open, one of Mason County’s premier golf fundraisers, at Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club, marking three decades of community-driven fundraising in support of rural healthcare excellence.
In 2025, the tournament raised more than $80,000 in funding for a new High Field Open MRI machine, which is now active and in high demand at the hospital. This year’s Fund-An-Item appeal will help purchase four new Philips Avalon FM series fetal and maternal monitors for Mason Health’s award-winning Birth Center. The total fundraising goal is $140,000.

The Avalon FM monitors are the first and only to offer automated coincidence detection with Smart Pulse technology, as well as the only product that can monitor triplets on a single monitor using the same Ultrasound frequency. With this new technology in the Birth Center, Mason Health can prevent birth complications and improve care outcomes for expectant mothers. Fetal monitors allow providers to identify potential problems early and detect signs of fetal distress.

Philanthropy is a critical support system for rural hospital districts like Mason Health. With other hospitals 30 minutes away or more, patients rely on the immediate availability of high-quality healthcare. Community partners and events like the Quality Care Open are crucial in providing physicians, nurses, and other staff with the necessary resources to provide such services.
“I’m proud of our fundraising efforts. In rural healthcare, resources are not as robust for state-of-the-art MRI machines. And, as a mom, I’m particularly drawn towards efforts to improve care outcomes for expectant parents,” said Amber Trail, Marketing Director for Our Community Credit Union (OURCU) and a volunteer golf committee member.
Many of the people who are integral to making this event a success have been involved for several years, including Brent Wilcox, Senior Director at Consertus and co-chair of the Foundation Golf Committee.
“I have been volunteering, playing in, or co-chairing this event since 2018. It’s become one of my favorite days of the year because it brings together fun, friendship, and purpose in a way few events do. What makes the Quality Care Open special is the heart behind it,” said Wilcox. “People come together not just for a great day on the course, but because they genuinely care about supporting local healthcare. Every golfer, sponsor, and volunteer knows they’re making a real difference for local patients and families. Reaching the tournament’s 30th anniversary is a testament to that lasting community commitment.”
While many tournament participants come from Mason Health’s community partners and sponsors, Mason Health staff and providers love to compete and mingle with neighbors and friends who seek treatment at Mason General Hospital and Mason Clinic. “One of the things I love most about this tournament is seeing neighbors come together to support neighbors,” said Nicole Eddins, PharmD, CPHQ, Senior Director of Performance Excellence at Mason Health. “In a small, rural area like Mason County, our hospital and clinic mean so much more than healthcare — they’re part of the heart of this town. Every dollar raised helps make sure that care stays close to home for generations to come.”
Even employees who aren’t golfers still love to volunteer their time for a great cause and help make the event a huge success. “The golf tournament gives us the chance to spend a day in the sun, creating memories with friends, participants, and sponsors while supporting our hospital district and enjoying so much of what makes our community special,” said Erica Wilson, Quality Project Coordinator at Mason Health. “As a rural hospital district, we are often the closest, most convenient, and sometimes only healthcare provider for our patients. Anything we can do to improve our services is going to be felt deeply through the community.”
“I love to volunteer for this event; it’s truly become one of my favorites. There’s something special about seeing everyone come together in such a fun and meaningful way, all united around a shared purpose. Whether I’m on the course helping golfers or assisting during dinner, you can feel the generosity and support from everyone involved,” said Renee Kapa, MA-C, CRHCP, Mason Clinic Supervisor. “What makes it even more meaningful is knowing that the funds go directly into our community, supporting things like new MRI equipment and enhancing patient care. It’s more than just an event—it’s a reminder of how much we can accomplish when we come together to support each other.”
