A burn ban will go into effect in Mason County on Friday.

A news release from Mason County’s Fire Marshal says, “Given the recent heat wave and predicted weather patterns for the near future, the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) for Mason County will be elevated from “Low” to “Moderate” on Friday June 19th. In accordance with County policy and to be consistent with the Department of Natural Resources, effective 12:01 AM on Friday June 19, 2026, Permitted Land Clearing and Residential Fires will be prohibited on all Mason County lands. Please note that Recreational Fires (I.E. campfires, cooking and pleasure fires in a concrete, rock or steel ring) are still allowed but will also be restricted once the NFDRS is elevated to the “High” level.
